History

The University of New Mexico (UNM) Women’s Rugby team was established in the year 2000 and has been a great representative for the state of New Mexico.  In the past 13 years, the UNM Women’s Rugby team has qualified to participate in the United States Western Division Playoffs 8 times.  Within the past 4 years the UNM Women’s rugby team qualified for the United States Sweet Sixteen twice and qualified for the United States Final Four once. The UNM rugby program has developed 6 All-American female rugby players, 10 United States Western All-Star players, and the first Lobo rugby player to become a United States Women’s Eagle (Jillion Potter).

The UNM women’s rugby team has recently joined the Pacific Mountain Rugby Conference (PMRC) and is a powerhouse of women’s rugby in the United States.  On March 23, 2013, we defeated Arizona State University and UCLA to qualify for the USA Rugby Sweet Sixteen, located in Palo Alto, CA. We are currently ranked #10 in the nation, and we are striving to become #1.

We are a competitive intercollegiate rugby club, open to all female students of the University. UNM Rugby provides a safe and fun environment for respectful, motivated, and committed athletes. No experience is necessary. Women of all sizes are welcome--there's a position for all body types on the pitch. There are NO TRYOUTS...if you are interested, you are on the team
